Be a PEER EDUCATOR!

CAPE (a Coalition of Agencies for Peer Education) is seeking volunteer applicants for the 2009-10 school year. Apply to be a part of one or more of these important peer education programs:

Boulder Youth Body Alliance (BYBA)
We are a youth driven, teen peer education program that empowers teens to create social change around the ideas, beliefs and messages that lead to eating disorders and body dissatisfaction. By changing the world, rather than our bodies, we expand the definition of beauty to fit all of us! Contact: Carmen Cool 303-440-5775 or carmenccool@yahoo.com

Colie’s Closet
We work to further the understanding  of depression and to prevent suicide. We want to diminish the stigma attached to depression and promote the knowledge that depression is treatable and it's okay to talk it about and get help. Meetings are Sunday afternoons. Contact Kathy Valentine at valstone2@hotmail.com or email colliescloset@comcast.net.

Gateway Drug Education
Youth in this program teach middle and high school students about the consequences and impacts of drug use and abuse, including tobacco, marijuana and alcohol. A student’s experience with substance use can range from none, to friends, family or personal use. Contact: Kelly Miller 303-870-7398 or  kelly.miller@bvsd.org

Peers Building Justice
Our mission is to educate middle and high school students on the issues of dating abuse, sexual assault, sexual harassment and oppression to generate dialogue among students in order to prevent interpersonal violence. Contact: Jessica Locke at 303-449-8623 or jessica@safehousealliance.org or Lalo Rivera at 303-443-0400 x.108 or lalo@movingtoendsexualassault.org

Sexual Health and AIDS Awareness (SHAPE)
We provide outreach and education to teens to help them reduce their risk of getting HIV and other sexually transmitted infections. We also work to prevent unintended teen pregnancy and hope to help everyone become more comfortable talking about sex and sexuality. Contact: Blair Young 303-440-9320 x.36 or blair@bvhwc.org

Youth Empowering Peers (YEP)
YEP builds understanding between and across differences and teaches youth to be allies to each other. Sponsored by The Healthy Youth Alliance, YEP works to raise awareness about equity and diversity issues in Boulder County. For more information or to sign up, contact Meca Delgado at mdelgado@bouldercounty.org.
