BVSD School Security
Teacher and Kids

The Boulder Valley School District is committed to the safety and security of each of the more than 30,000 students and staff using our facilities each day.  This web area is intended to highlight the strategies in place to meet that commitment.

The Boulder Valley School District has a Crisis Management Plan in place, based on the National Incident Command System recommended by the United States Homeland Security Agency (HSA) and the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA). Each school also has a plan in place, based on the same HSA and FEMA recommendations and best thinking. Please follow this link to read the BVSD Crisis Management Plan overview.

Boulder Valley School District continues to have a positive relationship with the agencies responsible for public safety in our communities. These agencies include the Boulder County and Broomfield County Office of Emergency Management, local law enforcement agencies, and local fire departments. Our Crisis Management Plans are, through these collaborative relationships, updated as needed to reflect the latest best practices.

In an effort to enhance opportunities to prevent school violence, BVSD is also participates in the highly-regarded Safe2Tell program. This program was developed as a result of safe schools plans created through Safe Communities~Safe Schools – a joint effort of the Colorado Trust and the Center for the Study of the Prevention of Violence at the University of Colorado at Boulder. These plans, along with the recommendation for a hot line from the Columbine Commission and the Colorado Attorney General, led The Colorado Trust to fund Safe2Tell.

Safe2Tell Drawing

The Security office for the Boulder Valley School District operates 24 hours a day year round, including weekends and holidays. There are two contact phone numbers that can be used to report non-life threatening emergencies such as vandalism, water line breaks, suspicious activity around a school, etc:

(720) 561-5051  or (303) 442-2400

In case of a life threatening emergency, always make 911 your first call.

Safe2Tell

Safe2Tell allows students, teachers, parents, or anyone else to call a toll free Colorado statewide hot line with information about a crime that has already happened, or one they fear may happen. The report is completely anonymous: your name is not required to stop a crime or abuse from happening.

To remain anonymous call 1-877-542-SAFE (7233). You can make a difference. To visit their web site for more information, use the link below.
