General Information

The Roche Colorado/BVSD Regional Science Fair is a meeting place for students and scientists. Here the students have the opportunity to exhibit their projects, share ideas with other students, and discuss their projects with scientists. The four main purposes of the Regional Secondary Science Fair are...

  1. To stimulate student interest in all fields of science
  2. To give students an opportunity to learn first hand the process of scientific investigation
  3. To give students the opportunity to present and discuss their findings with other students and with scientists in the community
  4. To recognize and reward outstanding student work

The Junior Division includes grades 6-8. Senior Division includes grades 9-12.

Middle School - Grades 6, 7, 8

Sixth-, seventh-, and eighth-graders are eligible to compete in the Science Fair. Students may enter projects individually, in pairs or in groups of three.   Winning projects may advance to the state and international science fairs.

Senior High - Grades 9, 10, 11, 12

9th graders are required to compete in the Senior Division. Students may enter projects individually, in pairs, or in groups of three.  Winning projects may advance to the state and international science fairs.

Science Fair Registration

Teachers need to go to the Student/Project Registration Page to register each student for the fair. When the registration is complete, the teachers will print out the Registration form for the student’s Parent/Guardian to sign.

  • Boulder Valley Science Fair Registration Form
  • Abstract Form
  • Checklist for Adult Sponsor/Safety Assessment Form
  • Research Plan (1A)
  • Approval Form (1B)

Student, Teacher, Parent Roles

Student's Role

  • To select a topic for the project
  • To develop a hypothesis and submit appropriate forms
  • To perform the experiments and record the results and observations
  • To construct the exhibit
  • To explain experiment/project to knowledgeable scientists/judges
  • NOTE: You will need an adult sponsor, such as your science teacher or your parent

Teacher's Role

  • To motivate students
  • To serve as an advisor for project development
  • To promote student ideas and recognize their intelligence
  • To arrange for special equipment if needed
  • To make sure all necessary forms are completed and signed in a timely manner

Parent's Role

  • To provide expertise on the topic as a resource person
  • To furnish supplies and help locate needed equipment
  • To provide transportation to library, to resource people, etc.
  • To provide a garage, a room, or an area in home for student to use
