Southern Hills Recognition!
Congratulations to Southern Hills !!
Southern Hills Middle School was recognized by 5280 magazine this month as being one of the top schools in the Denver Metro area.  This list of 44 schools, elementary through high school, included only a handful of middle schools, with Southern Hills being one of only three public middle schools to be cited.  We are the only true middle school to receive this recognition in BVSD.
The Southern Hills Community should feel extremely proud of this recognition and everything that you do to make our school such a great place for students to learn and grow.

 School Goals, 2007-2008

Southern Hills Middle School
Summary of School Goals, 2007-08

1.  Goal for Achievement - Reading:
Students at Southern  will improve their achievement in reading over baseline data and over time.  All students will achieve one years growth in one years time as measured by the Weighted Index Mean Scores over Time.

Baseline Data:
Students in all grades at Southern Hills had a Weighted Index Score of 110 in reading the 2007 CSAP.  In order to achieve the stated goal, students from all grade levels will need to maintain a score of 110 over the next two school years.

2.  Goal for Equity – SPED Math:
As a cohort group, Special Education students at Southern  will improve their achievement in math over baseline data and over time. Using the 2006-07 score of 79 as the baseline, the Special Education cohort group of students will achieve a Weighted Index Score gain of 5 points each of the next two years in math.

Baseline Data:
The Weighted Index Score for all Special Education students in math at Southern Hills was 79 in 2007 (while the overall scores for all students was 116).  To reach the stated goal, a 5 point gain needs to be achieved for two successive years in the area of math for all students in Special Education.

3.  Goal for Organization:
Increase, over baseline data and over time, student’s positive perception of student-staff relationship as measured by the Student Climate Survey.  Specifically, the goals is for the staff at Southern Hills Middle School to develop more trusting relationships with students beyond just the academic domain of a students experience at Southern Hills.   This goal will be centered on increases of five percentage points on nine predetermined items from the Student Climate Survey (questions - #4, 9, 11, 12, 16, 30, 33, 44, 46) which address this issue.

Baseline Data:
Progress on this goal will be centered on significantly measurable increases of five percentage points on nine predetermined items in the annual climate survey administered to all students.  The 2007 responses will be used as a baseline year.

Survey Questions of focus:
#4 – I feel respected by my teachers.
#9 – If I am harassed, bullied or discriminated against at school, there is an adult at school with whom I can talk.
#11 – I believe our school rules are consistently enforced.
