Dear Parents, Guardians and Students,
It is hard to believe that the summer is almost over and we are well into the 2007-2008 school year! After having the pleasure of serving as an administrator for five years I am honored to have been selected as the new principal of Nevin Platt Middle School. Platt is a unique place to work with two excellent programs and with an outstanding staff and community. I am looking forward to serving and providing leadership to both programs. I currently live in Boulder so this is truly a ‘great fit’ for me and I never dreamed I would start with the Boulder Valley School District in such a wonderful and vibrant school community.
Many of you already know me, but for those who don’t, I would like to tell you a little about myself. After working in the private sector for several years I decided I wanted a more rewarding profession. I had spent many hours volunteering in my children’s classroom and knew that teaching could provide that ‘truly making a difference feeling’ at the end of each day. I went back to school and received my Cross Cultural Language Acquisition Teaching Credential and started working in a very diverse school setting. After I started teaching, my passion for connecting with the students and parents I served lead me to pursue a Master of Science in Marital and Family Therapy. I found the training I received in that program to be invaluable to me as an educator. As an administrator I continue to use those skills on a daily basis.
After moving to Colorado I decided to pursue a Ph.D. in Educational Leadership and Policy Studies at the University of Denver. After finishing my dissertation in the area of Multicultural Education I completed the program in 2006. Although I am confident in my academic preparation to serve as a middle school principal, I believe my best qualification is that “I love middle school students”! This is such an exciting age group and each day students grow and change at a rapid pace. I am a wife, mother of two children in college, administrator and life long learner and I am truly dedicated to providing the best education possible for all students.
As we move through the 2007-2008 school year, I will be working together closely with my administrative team to ensure we maintain the excellent educational environment at Nevin Platt Middle School. I can’t wait to know all the students and parents. I invite you to watch for and attend the upcoming ‘Coffee with the New Principal’ socials or just stop by to say hello.
