 A Triple A+ School

Mesa Elementary School is a unique neighborhood school in South Boulder with a strong ACADEMIC focus that integrates the ARTS (visual arts and music) and ATHLETICS into the curriculum. Within the Boulder Valley School District, Mesa has developed a tradition of academic excellence where all students are challenged to excel and where learning is held in high regard. Emphasis is placed on active learning, self-confidence, understanding, and problem solving.

 Excellent Teachers

Mesa teachers are dedicated professionals, and their teaching experience ranges from one to 30+ years. The typical Mesa teacher has at least 15 years of teaching experience, and an exceptional number have master's or doctorate degrees. The teachers have high expectations for each child and firmly believe that every student can become a lifelong learner. Staff members spend personal time keeping up-to-date on educational issues through professional journals, continuing education classes, workshops, and seminars. Teachers work together, integrating the curriculum across subject areas and grade levels, team teaching and preparing students to be ready for the next grade level. Each week staff members volunteer many after-school hours to provide input on key school committees, run school programs, and organize special activities.

 Mesa Students Excel

Mesa students consistently score above the district and state average in math, reading, and writing.

 Strong Parent and Community Involvement

At Mesa, the involvement of parents and members of the community is one of the most important keys to school success. Every day, parents spend valuable time with students helping to enrich the many classroom activities. In addition, parents volunteer in the library, health room, computer lab, and art room. They are an integral part of all student activities and support their children's education at home. Parents are also involved in the School Improvement Team (SIT) and Parent Teacher Organization (PTO). The PTO organizes fund raisers such as the annual auction and the book fair. Through the PTO, significant money is raised to enhance education in the classroom and to improve the school and playgrounds.

Mesa has important ties to the Boulder community. Students bring music into the community through instrumental and vocal performances. These programs are enriched by interaction with musicians from the University of Colorado and the Boulder Philharmonic. Senior citizens share their talents at Mesa as tutors and in the Library.
