Heatherwood PTO At a Glance

Heatherwood PTO At a Glance

Welcome to Heatherwood Elementary school. We’re glad your family is joining our school community. Heatherwood is a great neighborhood school with a very active Parent Teacher Organization (PTO).  All parents and teachers at Heatherwood Elementary School are members of the Heatherwood PTO.

Who can attend the PTO meetings?
All parents and teachers are invited and encouraged to attend. We are always looking for input regarding PTO matters. The more people in attendance at the meeting, the better the needs of the children are represented.

The purpose of the PTO is to support the well-rounded education of each child at Heatherwood. To accomplish this we focus on three areas:

  • Building community spirit and relationships though social events
  • Raising money to support the goals of the School Improvement Team (SIT) and to support the school’s teachers
  • Coordinating volunteer efforts to support community events and academic programs

The PTO also:

  • plans and sponsors fundraisers
  • decides how to spend money from fundraisers
  • plans and sponsors family events throughout the year
  • organizes staff appreciation events
  • sponsors various school day events throughout the year
  • subsidizes field trips, class parties, etc. for families in need
  • funds the para-educators

Each year the PTO raises money to support the goals of the School Improvement Team. These achievement, equity and school organization goals require funding, above and beyond the funds provided by BVSD, for para educators to work in the classrooms, academic enrichment programs and classroom support.

During the 2009/2008 school year, the PTO fundraising goal is $38,000 to support these efforts. Our primary fundraiser is Heatherwood Impact Month, which is a direct appeal to parents to support the school with a one-time cash donation. In August, we ask each family to donate a specific amount per student. This year the amount is $185 per student.

Parent volunteers are an integral part of the Heatherwood community. There are many volunteer opportunities including helping in classrooms and the library, organizing or working at a community event and attending monthly PTO meetings. Time commitments range from several hours once a year, to regular weekly activities. Everyone is welcome. Please feel free to contact us at Heatherwoodpto@yahoo.com.

Please Join Us...every first Friday of the month at 8:10 to 9:30 in the Heatherwood Pit
