Welcome From The Principal:
"The mind is not a vessel to be filled, but a fire to be kindled." Plutarch
Dear Families and Visitors,
Welcome to our school! Coal Creek Elementary proudly serves our community through the efforts of an excellent, collaborate faculty and staff, supportive and energetic parents, an innovative learning community, and students who are empowered to serve in responsible leadership roles. We continue our tradition of strong academic achievement in content areas and the arts. We were honored to be named one of Colorado's Schools of Excellence in our recent past.
At Coal Creek Elementary, we embrace the Boulder Valley School District's vision of the New Century Graduate as our primary mission. To this end, we will ensure that our students have the knowledge, skills, and personal characteristics that will prepare them for the challenges they will encounter as young adults and beyond. In addition to skills and knowledge in reading, math, writing, speaking, and the sciences, we desire for our students to utilize successful problem solving skills and positive attitudes and effective dispositions of thinking. These dispositions, or "habits of mind" are a unique aspect of our mission at Coal Creek. The Habits of Mind include, but are not limited to, the following behaviors:
-
Persistence
-
Managing Impulsivity
-
Listening and Understanding with Empathy
-
Thinking Flexibly
-
Thinking About Thinking (Metacognition)
-
Striving for Accuracy
-
Questioning and Problem Posing
-
Gathering Data Through all the Senses
-
Responding with Awe and Wonderment
-
Taking Responsible Risks
-
Thinking Interdependently
-
Finding Humor
-
Remaining Open to Continuous Learning
A priority goal for Coal Creek School focuses on promoting an understanding of diversity. We encourage community service projects and activities where students may demonstrate peer leadership.
Our school is build on a history of success, yet we continue to find new ways in order to nurture and cultivate the whole child. Our school's motto is "Kai-Zen," constantly striving to improve! We enjoy strong parental participation and welcome your interest in our learning community.
Warm Regards,
