Concert Choir:

This choir is open to all students, grades 9-12. A wide variety of vocal techniques are presented and utilized. Culminating performances are given throughout the school year.

Women’s Show Choir:
Show Choir focuses on the performance of vocal music in popular idiom.  Emphasis is placed on developing appropriate vocal techniques and stage presence to create effective overall performance. Women's Show Choir takes the stage at school and around the community several times each year.

Fermata the Blue:


Fermata the Blue focuses on the highest level of music performance over a wide-range of musical styles which include classical and traditional repertoire in the fall, the annual Madrigal Dinner in the winter, and Jazz and contemporary a cappella in the spring.

This select group of performers, comprised of students from grades 10-12, are selected based on audition.

They give about 40 performances around the community and abroad throughout the school year.  This averages out to 1 performance every 5 school days! This group has consistently received the highest scores possible at Jazz festivals all over the state and in Orlando, Florida, and are in high demand to perform for business and community functions all over Colorado.



Band:

The Centaurus band acts as both marching and concert band and is open to any CHS student. Previous experience is not required - new students wil be taught basics from the beginning. Marching band takes place during the first three months of school and offers students a chance to learn the fundamental skills of marching used for parades, halftime shows for football games and various competitions. They play all genres of music from classical to contemporary to pop. Concert band studies the musical skills and the technical and artistic interaction necessary for performance in large and small ensemble settings. 

Marching Band rehearses daily during football season, performs at all home football games, competitions, and community events. The Warrior Marching Band is dedicated to excellence, and they consistently finish at the top of their class at competitions.

Jazz Band:
The Centaurus Jazz Band is a traditional big band consisting of saxophones, trombones, trumpets, guitar, piano, bass guitar, and drums.  The jazz band performs several different styles of music including swing, Latin, funk, rock and others.  Students will also be taught and explore jazz improvisation. This class is a corequisite with Concert Band.

Percussion Ensemble :
Open to any CHS student who is currently enrolled in a CHS music class and interested in honing percussion skills to compete in percussion ensemble competitons, the Centaurus Drumline is an extracurricular activity that combines musicianship and performance.

Orchestra:
Participating in the CHS Orchestra provides technical and musical training for musicians using compositions from various musical time periods including pop music.  Experiences in Orchestra range from formal concerts to performances of solo and small ensemble pieces.  Opportunities are provided to participate in the school musical in the spring semester.  

Guitar:
Centaurus offers a full year guitar program, helping students become guitarists and more importantly, musicians.  In addition to learning to read standard music, tablature, and chord charts, playing techniques and styles, a series of classroom performances enhance student learning.
