Before and After School Policy
COMMUNICATION WITH THE SCHOOL OFFICE:
Absences
Parents are asked to please call the office at (720) 561-3500 by 8:45 a.m. if a child will be late or absent. You may call in the evening and leave a message if you know your child will miss the following day at school. To leave a message in the main office voicemail box press 0 once the machine answers.
Tardiness
We believe that regular school attendance and being on time is of the utmost importance. All students should be in attendance areas at 8:35 a.m. when school begins. A student arriving after 8:35 a.m. needs to report to the office before proceeding to class. We realize some tardies are involuntary, such as accidents and weather. It is our goal to reduce voluntary tardies. Students are held accountable for completion of missed work due to either voluntary or involuntary tardies. The staff will identify students with chronic tardiness and provide appropriate intervention to reduce tardies.
Early Dismissals
Parents who need to have a child dismissed early or excused from school for a brief period of time should see their child’s teacher to determine the necessary arrangements. Also, please stop by the office to sign your child out. Students who return for the remainder of the day, need to check back into the office.
After school arrangements need to be made prior to the beginning of school. Students are not allowed to use the school phones to make play dates. It is not always possible to get a message to a classroom during the last minutes of the day. We understand that emergencies come up and we will try to help when that happens.
Before and After School Procedures

For your child’s safety, students should be dropped off at Bear Creek no earlier than 8:20 a.m. when supervision begins in the morning. After school supervision ends 15 minutes after dismissal so be sure your child has been picked up by 3:10 p.m. Any student who remains will be brought to the office so that parents may be contacted. Please be sure to take care of communication for any after school plans before dropping your child off for the day. The safety of your child is our utmost concern.
If for some reason you need to have your students at Bear Creek early, we invite you to supervise them until 8:20 a.m. when teacher supervision begins. Students may not drop their belongings in their classroom until the bell rings at 8:35 a.m.
On days with inclement weather, there will be a sign posted on the fence near the flagpole, as well as by the front door to indicate if children may proceed to their classroom at 8:20. The teachers who are outside on duty will determine if students may enter the school. Parents may drop their child off at their classroom doors where students should follow their classroom teacher’s instructions. Supervision in the classroom will be provided by the classroom teacher for that morning.
*Please note that students need to be dressed appropriately for the changing Colorado weather.

Prices for student hot lunches are expected to remain the same next year. Expected prices at this time are:
Elementary Student Hot lunch: $2.50
Adult Hot lunch (w/o milk): $3.50
Reduced price lunch: .25
8 oz milk (white or chocolate): .50
8 oz orange juice: .50

Is your child eating lunch today? The Bear Creek lunch room offers hot lunch which includes white or chocolate milk. In addition to hot lunch, the following a la carte items are available for purchase: bagel, cream cheese, orange juice, additional milk. Hot lunch must be ordered during attendance period in the morning (by 9:00 a.m.). A peanut butter sandwich may be ordered in lieu of the main entree on any day, but it must be ordered when the lunch count is taken in the morning. Please note that peanut butter sandwiches may be made on a variety of breads. Please make sure your child is clear on whether he/she is eating hot lunch, cold lunch, a bagel, or not eating at school so that he can tell the teacher. If your child has an appointment and will be late please call the office with lunch information so we can order the appropriate item(s).
Does your child have enough $ in his/her account? All children have their own lunch accounts with their own pin numbers. All money for all items purchased in the lunchroom, from hot lunch to bagels, should be sent in a lump sum. Parents are asked to pay for lunches on the first day of school. Lunches may be paid for more than one week in advance. Checks should be made payable to "BVSD". Hot lunch is available for a reduced price, if you think you may be eligible for free or reduced lunch, please contact the school office for the appropriate forms.
Joining your child for lunch? If you would like to join your child for lunch, we would love to have you. Please let the office know by 9:00 a.m. if you will be joining us for lunch that day, as lunches are brought in from off premises. Also, since all transactions are done on account in the lunchroom (no cash or checks), please either turn in your money to the office in the morning (by 10:00 a.m.) or make sure your child has enough money in his/her account to cover BOTH your lunches.
Milk allergies? If your child cannot drink milk, orange juice may be substituted provided there is a Certified Doctor’s Statement on file in our office stating there is a medical reason that prohibits him from drinking milk. With or without a note, orange juice can be purchased for an additional $.
