January 2009 FPO Meeting

We would like to invite all interested parents to the next meeting, which will be held after the Winter Break:

Tuesday, January 13th at 11:30 AM in the Library Viewing Room

Don Stensrud will speak about the implementation of standardized grading by subject at Fairview, among other topics. We hope to see you there!!

 

Attention Fairview Parents, Students and Staff! We need photos....
 
We are looking for your candid photographs of Fairview students at school, at sporting events or just having fun at any school-related function. We will be featuring these photos monthly in FairViews, our Fairview Parent Organization (FPO) newsletter. Submit group pictures, individual shots, action photos, include staff or parents--anything that best portrays the lives of Fairview students.

There are just a few ground rules:

  • All photos should be submitted by the 23rd of the month to be considered for the upcoming edition.
  • All photos should be accompanied by a cutline that includes a brief description, identifies the individuals pictured and identifies the photographer with name, phone number, and e-mail (in case we need to contact you).
  • All photos must include at least one Fairview student and should be school-related.
  • Individuals in the photograph must provide consent.
  • Photos should be submitted in a jpg format, and may be in black and white, or color.
  • E-mail all submissions to fairviews-newsletter@windom.bvsd.org.

We cannot guarantee that all submissions will be published due to space limitations, but we will do our best! Once again, please e-mail your photographs, including the cutline, to fairviews-newsletter@windom.bvsd.org. If you have any questions, use the same e-mail address.

Fast Facts about the Fairview Parent Organization

What is our purpose?

The Fairview Parent Organization (FPO) is a non-profit organization dedicated to supporting our school administration, staff, and the education of our students. We strive to accomplish these goals through raising significant funds for use in the classroom, for staff development, and for building and sustaining our school community. Additionally, we coordinate many volunteer activities and events, provide a forum for parent education and communication, and serve as a parent-based liaison between our school and the district.

Who is involved? When do we meet?

We welcome all parents to be active in the FPO. In addition to our parents, our principal, Don Stensrud, also attends FPO meetings. The meetings begin with a principal’s report, which may include pertinent parenting issues. Agenda items are then addressed. We plan to have our FPO meetings on the first Tuesday of each month from 11:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. Lunch is provided, and we think that you will find this time informative.

Parents do not have to “join” to be involved at Fairview, nor do parents have to attend all FPO meetings. We have many varied activities, opportunities, and tasks that we hope to accomplish, and we need the support of as many parents as possible. In fact, as much as we would love for all parents to attend the FPO meetings, there are also many other ways to be involved at Fairview that do not require attending any meetings, such as a myriad of volunteer opportunities.

What is the Knight Quest?

The Knight Quest is the name of the FPO fundraising campaign. We raise most of our funds through a direct request to our parents. The money raised by the FPO supports many efforts at the school, including instructional support and technology, staff development, parent education and forums, and building improvements.

How can I get involved?

There are countless ways to be involved with the FPO. We have many volunteer spots open for the 2008-2009 school year. We welcome you to come to our first meeting on September 2nd to hear more about what is planned for this year. If you cannot attend the meeting, please refer to the contact information on this web page.

Parent Engagement Network - The Boulder-based Parent Engagement Network (PEN) offers an annual seminar series that covers critical student/parent topics, which are often presented by nationally renowned experts. Please visit www.parentengagementnetwork.org to view the calendar of events.

District Parent Council - The District Parent Council meets the third Wednesday of the month.  Each school has a parent representative who attends the meetings and acts as the conduit between the school community and the district office.  Representatives receive minutes from this meeting, which are forwarded to the school community (typically in the Knight News newsletter).  Minutes are also available on the BVSD web site here:  http://districtparentcouncil.weebly.com/2008-minutes.html.
