Business and Computer Education 

 

The Business and Computer Education Department at Fairview High School provides instruction for all students in the fields of Business and Computer Science.  Business classes include Word Processing I (Keyboarding), Word Processing II, Personal Finance, Accounting, United States Business Law and Practice, Business Foundations, and Business Management.

Computer classes include Basic Programming, Java Programming, Internet/Web Applications, Desktop Publishing, and Mastering Computer Applications. AP Computer Science (Java), IB Computer Science (Java) and IB Business are offered at the more advanced levels.  All business and computer courses incorporate the highest level of computer technology available in order to properly train students for the future. 

Fairview requires 5 credits (1 semester) of Practical Arts courses; business and computing courses fulfill this requirement. Please see the Money Management section below for information on new requirements.

 Money Management and Personal Finance

To meet BVSD graduation requirements, students graduating in 2010 and beyond must have complete coursework in Money Management and Personal Finance. This requirement enables students to meet the following standards:

  • Standard 1: The student will apply principles and practices of budgeting.
  • Standard 2: The student will demonstrate sound financial record keeping as fundamental to effective personal financial management.  
  • Standard 3: The student will understand how banking supports personal finance management.
  • Standard 4: The student will demonstrate how debt management is critical to financial stability.
  • Standard 5: The student will understand how insurance contributes to financial stability.
  • Standard 6: The student will understand the purpose of investments and how investments provide personal financial security. 

At Fairview High School, students have two options in order to fulfill this graduation requirement.

  • Option 1: Students can take a course offered at FHS which meets this requirement. The following courses fulfill the Money Management and Personal Finance requirement:
