When looking at schools with a high percentage of English Language Learners (ELL), CSAP data alone doesn't tell the true story about learning at a particular school. The link below in the Columbine Achievement Data box is a slide presentation which shares some exciting longitudinal data we've collected.
While assessments are an important measure of program success, we believe there are other measures such as yearly growth and performance within groups that are equally important. At Columbine kids undergo several assessments a year including:
- Biannual writing samples sent to the district
- Reading assessments (including running records) 3X annually
- Math assessments 3X annually
Assessments at Columbine are more than just numbers published in the paper for comparison, these test results are important to us and drive, but never dictate our instruction.
At Columbine children who are proficient in English are performing at or above the District level. Second language learners are not yet proficient in English and therefore will not rank as proficient on assessments such as the CSAP. Our measures and expectations for their academic growth are different, but no less rigorous.
