C88 Folkloric Dance/Baile Folklorico

Folkloric Dance/Baile Folklorico is designed to teach the fundamentals of Mexican folk dances and introduce students to many artistic elements of the Mexican culture. Students wear authentic costumes from various states in Mexico. Performances after school hours are an integral part of this course and are required. This course is taught in English and Spanish.

This course offers students opportunities to learn and experience various avenues for student and community leadership. Students learn the necessary skills to take initiative and participate fully in their school and community experiences.

AVID (Advancement Via Individual Determination) is a program designed for students with average grades who want to succeed in college. AVID is considered an academic elective and it meets daily like other classes. Students’ academic potential is developed through access to the most rigorous curriculum, tutorials, and a student skills curriculum that includes organization and inquiry. AVID students take notes in all classes and they are required to organize and summarize their notes from all their classes each week. The AVID teacher and the AVID site team closely monitor student academic progress. Students apply to the AVID program and are interviewed by a team of teachers as part of the application process.
X18 Middle School Transitions
Level: Grade 6
Course Length: Quarter
A unique class at Casey taught through the Counseling Department to ease the transition from elementary school to middle school. Students explore a wide variety of topics including academic preparedness, interpersonal communication, and community-building.
