Absences
During the course of the school year, some students will have a few days when they won't be able to make it to school. We understand; absences happen. But if a student is absent from school as the result of an illness or family emergency, either the student's parent or legal guardian is required to call our 24-hour attendance voicemail line at 303-447-5458. We request that parents or guardians call before 9 a.m. on the day that the student will be absent. This gives us an opportunity to prepare for the school day and provides parents and guardians with the opportunity to request any homework assignments handed out that day. Parents and guardians may pick up their child's homework in the attendance office at the end of the school day.
Prearranged absences—Parents and guardians have the ability to exempt their child from school through our prearranged absence policy. If your child is going to be absent from school at a future date, please call our attendance office at 303-447-5458 to notify us of the intended absence as soon as possible. Once we know that your child will be out of school, we will provide your child with a prearranged absence form that he or she can deliver to each of his or her teachers. Teachers will then provide your child with the assignments that he or she needs to complete during the absence.
Excessive Absences—Attendance is very important in the state of Colorado. All children under the age of 16 are required by the state's compulsory attendance laws to attend school on regularly.
Poor school attendance often leads to lower achievement levels and an increased risk of dropping out of school during high school, according to our research. Whenever we determine that a student's educational progress is being adversely affected due to absences, either an Angevine teacher or school administrator will notify the appropriate parent or guardian and meet with them to discus ways to solve the attendance problem.
Permission to Leave During the School Day—Students who need to leave school grounds during the school day must provide a written permission note from their parent or guardian to the attendance office. Once we receive a formal request for permission to leave during the school day, we will provide the student with a special pass that the student can use to leave the grounds. Upon return, students must report to the attendance office to obtain an admit slip, which they can use to return to class.
Any student who leaves the school grounds without following the aforementioned procedures will be considered truant. Students are not allowed to leave the school grounds during lunch period.
To ensure the safety of our student body, all adults who come to the school to pick up a student will be asked to show personal identification.
