Student Leadership

Angevine is a large school with more than 600 students. Students are provided with many opportunities that are often unavailable at smaller schools, but some students risk getting lost in the crowd. Accordingly, we are determined to ensure that each of our students has an opportunity to develop his or her leadership skills.

We maintain several programs that encourage and nurture leadership abilities. Included here is a general overview of some of the opportunities available for all Angevine

Student Council
The Angevine Student Council, a strong program at Angevine, is focused on tapping the spirit of the student body and providing support for our local community and even our nation. During the 2004 - 2005 school year, for example, the Student Council managed the "Lafayette to New York" program, which raised more than $6,000 to help out children who were adversely affected by the terrorist events of September 11, 2001. The group also arranges assemblies to recognize academic and athletic achievements, and an annual Spirit Week event. If you have questions about the Angevine Student Council, please contact
ana.mendoza@bvsd.org.

Peer Mediation
Sometimes student conflicts are best addressed by fellow students. Through the Angevine Peer Mediation program, select students work with other students to help them resolve conflicts. Independent of school counselors and administrators, Peer Mediation students use active listening and conflict resolution skills to help their peers resolve minor issues. Student mediators are nominated from all areas of the student body and then are trained by a professional counselor. For more information on the Angevine Peer Mediation program, please contact

WEB
The transition from the comfortable environs of elementary school to bustling halls of middle school can be one of the most difficult in a person's life. Through our WEB program, Angevine eighth graders have the opportunity to help young students make the leap from fifth grade to sixth grade. In this unique leadership program, eighth graders who are experienced with the inner workings of Angevine set aside some days from their summer vacation to welcome incoming sixth graders to the middle school environment. The WEB program not only provides a much needed transition for new sixth graders, but offers eighth graders a feeling of ownership and a unique leadership experience to take with them on their own journey to high school. To find out more about the WEB program, please contact
