Sixth Grade Exploratory Wheel
The Angevine sixth grade Exploratory Wheel is composed of four segments: Art, Consumer and Family Studies, Computers, and World Languages. Students will rotate through in 9 week/1 quarter segments.
Art Topics:
This introductory class will experiment with a variety of media to create visual art. Using the Elements of Art (line, shape, color, value and texture), the development of basic art skills and different art techniques are stressed. Projects include: “My Name” book, pencil portrait drawing, color tempera painting, pastel drawing, pottery, and cartoon design.
Visual Arts Standards: Projects will be based on all the standards: Standard 1: Communication through art, Standard 2: Using Elements of Art, Standard 3: Using materials and techniques, Standard 4: History and culture and Standard 5: Analysis.
Consumer and Family Studies Topics:
Sixth Grade Exploratory is an introductory course designed to acquaint students with several areas of Consumer and Family Studies. Topics include nutrition, food preparation, sewing, decision-making and organizational skills. The students will explore safety, sanitation, measuring techniques and the use of equipment. Cooperative learning groups and the integration of all academic areas will be emphasized through practical experiences.
Essential learning results occur in areas of interpersonal communication skills, consumerism, personal and family health/wellness, safety and management of the living environment and employability skills. Students will utilize a variety of technologies.
Computer Topics:
Sixth Grade Exploratory Computers is a brief introduction to Computer Science and Business. Topics are designed to introduce applications that could be used in the educational setting. Logical programming is also introduced, as well as computer related vocabulary. At Angevine, students will be exposed to the Microsoft Office products. Topical business and basic keyboarding are introduced in this course.
World Language Topics:
Exploratory world language immerses students in communication and culture through languages other than English.
World Language Standards: Standard 1: Students communicate in a world language while demonstrating literacy in all four essential skills: listening, speaking, reading and writing.
Standard 2: Culture: students acquire and use knowledge of cultures while developing world language skills.
