Program Overview

Safe Routes to School is a nationally recognized initiative that has had great success in increasing the number of children walking and cycling to school in places such as Marin County, California.

The concept is simple. With close support from the BVSD Transportation Department and relevant municipalities, parent advisory groups lead school-based programs to identify barriers to walking and cycling and employ a combination of techniques to overcome them.

Program Goals

The primary objective is to increase the appeal and safety of walking and cycling to school producing more active, healthful students who more often travel to school on foot and by bike.
