BVSD high schools marched away with three big wins at the Colorado State Marching Band Championships a couple of weeks ago. In the 5A/4A championships which took place Oct. 21 & 22 at CSU in Fort Collins, Fairview placed second in class 5A and Monarch placed sixth in 4A. A couple of days later Centaurus placed fifth in the 3A class division of the 1A/2A/3A championships held Oct. 24 at Sports Authority Stadium in Parker.

“This was our best finish since our state championship in 1986,” said Travis Keller, Director of Bands for Fairview High School. Fairview’s band has consistently made state finals in the past many years and ranked third place in 1987, 1988 and 1989.
 
“I am extremely proud of the students,” said Aaron Vogelsberg, Director of Bands and IB Music for Centaurus High School. “They have worked so hard to improve and their hard work was reflected in their show.” This was the third year in a row that the Centaurus band made it to the state finals.

Monarch High’s marching band has moved up five places in the last two years, from 11th to 6th.

“The students worked really hard this season with a goal of getting into state finals, which is top eight, so getting sixth place was a huge achievement,” said Monarch High’s Marching Band Director Clare Church. “This is a great group of kids with an amazing work ethic, and I’m really proud of them. “

“Congratulations to all of our Boulder Valley schools for continuing this tradition of excellence and enhancing the overall academic experience of our students,” said Roy Holloway, Director of Curriculum for Fine Arts, Physical Education and Health.
