BOULDER: The New Vista High School Robotics Team (New Vista Robocolypse) placed second in the game competition and second in the overall (BEST) competition at the Rocky Mountain BEST competition. The competition took place Sunday, October 23rd at the Auraria Campus Events Center in Denver, Colorado.
For the past month student-led teams from schools all over Colorado have been putting their heads together to make the most effective bug-capturing robot. New Vista High School improved on their 2010 finish by finishing second in the head-to-head game competition, and 2nd in the all around competition, which includes writing, marketing, and live presentation components. Their spectacular finish qualified them for the Frontier Trails BEST, which will host teams from North Dakota, Oklahoma, Arkansas, Missouri, and Colorado.
This was the second annual robotics competition held by Rocky Mountain BEST for middle and high school students throughout Colorado. Their goal is to motivate kids for studies and careers in engineering, science, and technology. BEST introduces them to some of the engineering/scientific methods through mentoring by industry professionals and actual hands-on experience. Kids experience real-world engineering while participating an exciting and fun, sports-like competition. This year over 20 schools from Colorado vied for the top awards. Rocky Mountain BEST is a regional hub for BEST robotics, a national competition.
New Vista is excited to take their game to the next level. You can follow New Vista Robotics on Twitter @NVHSRobotics or find them on Facebook.
