BOULDER, Colorado (December 11, 2011) The New Vista High School Robotics Team (New Vista Robocolypse) reached the semifinal round at the regional Frontier Trails BEST robotics competition, a regional competition that hosts top finishers from local competitions in Colorado, Missouri, Arkansas, Oklahoma, and Kansas. The competition took place December 9th and 10th in Fort Smith, Arkansas.
Frontier Trails BEST is one of three regional hubs for the BEST robotics competition.Their goal is to motivate students for studies and careers in engineering, science, and technology. BEST introduces engineering and scientific methods through mentoring by industry professionals and actual hands-on experience. Students experience real-world engineering while participating in an exciting and fun sports-like competition. This year the top finishers from 10 different local hubs fought it out in an intense 2-day competition.
New Vista qualified for this competition by placing 2nd in the game competition and 2nd in the overall (BEST) competition at the second annual Rocky Mountain BEST competition. The competition took place Sunday, October 23rd at the Auraria Campus Events Center in Denver, Colorado. Their semifinal finish at Frontier Trails BEST was the best finish by any Colorado team.
The regional competition marked the end of the most successful season yet for the young New Vista Robotics program. In just their second year, the team made their presence known on a national stage, competing against teams that have been in existence far longer. Students are looking forward to expanding the program and continuing their success in the coming year.
The ability to compete at the national level competition was made possible by the sponsorship of Google Boulder, as well as support from Ball Aerospace, Techstars, Sphero, Copy Experts, BVSD, and a number of individual donors.
