Meadowlark Celebrates First 100 Days

BVSD’s First School in Erie to Mark Milestone with Time Capsule

BOULDER – On Thursday, February 1, 2018, Meadowlark School serving students in grades PK-8 will mark its one-hundredth day of serving students in Erie, Colorado. Meadowlark was one of four BVSD schools opened on August 16, 2017.

The staff at Meadowlark welcomed students only a couple days after receiving its certificate of occupancy, which meant that its teachers, staff and administrators had to sprint to get the building ready. In fact, they worked through a weekend, carrying in furniture, situating learning materials and decorating classes -- all while the building remained a hard-hat zone, in places.

Despite the challenging start, 100 days later the school has taken shape, truly becoming an example of where Boulder Valley School District plans to take education into the future.

Meadowlark employs flexible learning environments to create spaces that will allow teachers to personalize learning for students, using multiple modes to deliver instruction and facilitate learning to fully engage students in their education. A variety of spaces, along with furniture and even walls can be easily reconfigured, supporting different teaching approaches and learning needs throughout the day.

Students are organized in learning communities, which are made of students that typically would have been broken into two grades previously. This allows teachers to better support students, especially in literacy and math, even if they are ahead or behind of the typical grade-level expectations.
