Louisville Middle School Hosts 3rd Annual “Souper Supper” November 16 to Benefit Sega Girls School in Tanzania

250 African-inspired bowls made by LMS students will be for sale at the event

LOUISVILLE, CO – Louisville Middle School (LMS) students are getting ready to host their third annual “Souper Supper” to benefit the Sega Girls’ School in Tanzania. The school-sponsored fundraiser will be held 5:00-7:00 p.m. Wed., Nov. 16, at 1341 Main Street in Louisville.

“This wonderful event allows for our community to come together during the Thanksgiving Season and give thanks for our beautiful school, all while helping children half way around the world receive an education,” said Lori Llerandi, art teacher at Louisville Middle School and board member for the Nurturing Minds in Africa organization.

Tickets are available for $5 each and can be purchased Monday-Friday from 8:30-11:30 a.m. at the school, as well as on the night of the event.

In addition to the sale of hand-glazed bowls from Lori Llerandi’s art students ($12 each), Tanzanian bracelets will be available ($5 each) and a chance to win one of two pairs of custom Vans (valued at $70 each).  Entertainment will be provided by Dave Crowder's African Drumming Band "Bamboche" and Becky Bragg's marimba band "Chapungu" from the Kutandara Center.

This year’s Souper Supper is being provided with delicious food by: Dickey's BBQ, The Sink, Rudi's Organic Bakery, The Hundsorfer family, The Huckleberry, Pasta Jays, Old Santa Fe Mexican Grill and Connor O'Neills. LMS families are also asked to bring a side dish or dessert to share.

This event is a collaboration between the LMS Art and Social Studies departments, Pirate Council and National Junior Honor Society.

Last year's Souper Supper brought in more than 500 people from the Louisville community and raised more than $5,600, which furnished a new dorm at the SEGA Girls’ School with 30 new beds, mattresses and linens for their new dorm room. Some of these girls had never slept in a bed before!

SEGA now has 90 girls thriving in school, girls who had previously dropped out due to poverty, AIDS in the family, malaria, etc.  Learn more about Nurturing Minds in Africa: www.nurturingmindsinafrica.org
