Boulder Valley School Board Allows Extension of Superintendent Chris King's Contract to June 30, 2012

At. Dr. King's request, the school board will keep his 2009-10 salary at current 2008-09 level.

BOULDER – Boulder Valley Board of Education President Ken Roberge announced today that Boulder Valley School District Superintendent Chris King’s contract has been allowed to automatically extend another year through June 30, 2012. Under the terms of Dr. King’s original contract signed in 2007 with BVSD, he is evaluated annually and unless the school board acts otherwise, his contract’s expiration date is automatically extended one fiscal year (July 1 through June 30).

It is customary when the school board decides to allow an extension that it also determines what annual increase in salary is appropriate for the superintendent. However, at Dr. King’s personal request, his 2009-2010 salary will remain the same as his current 2008-2009 salary. Dr. King stated to the school board that, given the exceptionally tight budget for 2009-2010, he was not requesting any salary increase for the new fiscal year which begins July 1, 2009.

"We are pleased with the steps Dr. King is taking to increase the achievement of all students, to reduce achievement gaps, and to create a safe and positive learning environment for all students," said Board President Ken Roberge. "We look forward to continuing to work with Dr. King in the spirit of continuous improvement to raise the performance of all aspects of the district to the highest possible level."
