Boulder - Walk into almost any secondary school in the nation at this time of year and you will undoubtedly find students haphazardly throwing the contents of their lockers into trash bins without any regard for what could be reused or recycled. A program called "Locker Leftovers" has changed all that at Boulder's Fairview High School. In the past three years, Fairview's Locker Leftovers program has donated 77 32-gallon bags of reuseable school supplies and clothing to charity. In addition, more than 200 giant bins of paper have been recycled.
From 9:00-11:00 a.m. tomorrow, students will take a moment to sort through the items from their lockers and divert a large portion of it from ending up in the landfill.
Media are welcome! (Please check in with the school office first.)
Locker Leftovers is a joint partnership between Fairview High School and EcoCycle, with additional sponsorship from the City of Boulder Environmental Affairs office.
