Emerald Elementary students bring wax museum to life with combination of technology and video

BROOMFIELD-Students in the fifth grade at Emerald Elementary have a new appreciation for wax, as in a museum full of it. By bringing together technology, creativity and a little bit of inspiration, these kids created wax museums and then set their creations to video. Student’s movies will be displayed on laptops where students will visit other classrooms to share their techno-creations.

“It is a showcase for how technology use can be taken to a whole new level for elementary students,” said Emerald Elementary Principal, Larry Leatherman.

District IT staff have worked feverishly to install a wireless internet environment for these 5th graders which enabled them access to images, sounds, etc. for a research report movie of their wax museums.  The school is especially grateful for all the hard work provided by Genna Jaramillo, Elmar Cannon and Jennifer Hanson from the IT Department and Jeff Bierlein, a Technical staff member at the school.

This unique project will be on display Wed., May 7 from 12:10 to 1:40 p.m. and will be a great photo opportunity.

“Since so much has been put into technology in this district, it might be good to show people what they are getting for their money,” said Leatherman.

“The school cannot say enough good about the IT staff that made this concept a reality for Emerald students. The people who were working hard to install the wireless equipment, and Jennifer Hanson who instructed our class about how to access, download, and save images did a phenomenal job,” said Leatherman.

“Jennifer Hanson really is an asset to the district, and her experience teaching elementary students really benefits us when she works with our kids,” said Leatherman.
