Disassembled Classroom Furniture Headed to Recycle

Worn out classroom furniture from BVSD's 54 school buildings will be recycled instead of sent to local landfills.

BOULDER, CO – The Boulder Valley School District (BVSD), in a continuing effort to “green BVSD,” will be loading what was once a mountain of disassembled chairs and desks behind the BVSD Education Center (located at 6500 E. Arapahoe Road in east Boulder) tomorrow morning (6/3) and next Tuesday morning (6/7) from 7AM until 8AM. This “mountain” of much-used classroom furniture has been replaced with new furniture through BVSD’s voter-approved 2006 capitol improvement bond issue. Such surplus furniture was once sent to local landfills. A few years ago, BVSD, Colorado’s eighth largest school district (of 178 school districts) entered into an agreement with Conway, Arkansas-based Virco, Inc. to recycle these items instead. BVSD staff will be loading them into the first Virco trailer tomorrow morning (6/3) and a second trailer next Tuesday morning (6/7).
