BOULDER – Boulder Valley School District (BVSD) Superintendent Bruce Messinger congratulates each of 15 BVSD schools for achieving statewide honors in 2011 as announced yesterday (12/12) by the Colorado Department of Education (CDE). CDE announced that each of these 15 BVSD schools will receive a 2011 John Irwin and/or 2011 Governor’s Distinguished Improvement award. Dr. Messinger was notified Friday (12/9) by CDE and let the principals of each school know on Sunday afternoon (12/11). According to Colorado Commissioner of Education Robert Hammond, in the coming month the appropriate certificates will be sent by CDE to the BVSD superintendent’s office and will be distributed to each school. 

The 2011 Governor’s Distinguished Improvement awards are awarded to schools that “exceed” expectations on the three-year school performance framework’s indicator related to academic growth and “meet or exceed” expectations on the indicator related to academic growth gaps. These schools demonstrate the highest levels of growth for not just some students but all student groups. 

I. The one BVSD school receiving a 2011 Governor’s Distinguished Improvement award is:

Eisenhower Elementary School, 1220 Eisenhower Dr., Boulder

The 2011 John Irwin awards are awarded to schools that “exceed” expectations on the three-year school performance framework’s indicator related to academic achievement and that “meet or exceed” expectations on the indicator related to academic growth gaps. These schools demonstrate the highest levels of achievement not just for some students but also adequate performance across all student groups. For high schools, the schools also “meet or exceed” graduation expectations.

Eldorado K-8 School (Grades K-5), 3351 Indiana St., Superior
Foothill Elementary School, 1001 Hawthorne Ave., Boulder
Heatherwood Elementary School, 7750 Concord Dr., Boulder
Jamestown Elementary School, 111 Mesa St., Jamestown
Nevin Platt Middle School, 6096 Baseline Rd., Boulder
Southern Hills Middle School, 1500 Knox Dr., Boulder
Summit Middle Charter School, 4655 Hanover Ave., Boulder
