Green Month Award Celebration
8 a.m. Wednesday, May 4, Arapahoe Campus Cafeteria
(6600 East Arapahoe Road, Boulder)
Background
The green month challenge was created by the Student Accountability Advisory Committee (SAAC) as a competition between BVSD High Schools to reduce energy use. The results were determined by comparing gas and electric consumption (or total energy measured in BTUs) from February 2011 to February 2010. This data was normalized by square foot. Arapahoe Campus had the largest percentage reduction. Seven schools competed in the green month challenge; the results are as follows:
Winner! Arapahoe Campus -11.85 (% change MBTU per SF)
Runner Up: Monarch High
Third Place: New Vista High
Fourth Place Broomfield High
Fifth Place: Centaurus High
Sixth Place: Boulder High
Seventh Place: Fairview High
We would like to congratulate all of the participating schools. Gas at all of the schools went up (due to a colder February), however, the top five schools were able to reduce electric consumption on a square foot basis compared to last year. Great work!
Arapahoe Campus will receive a travelling trophy from SAAC and $2500 from BVSD’s Office of Sustainability toward a resource conservation capital improvement project at the school. The school will also receive rewards and recognition from Xcel Energy and SAAC.
