Angevine Middle School

 Welcome!

Welcome to Angevine Middle School!

We are a student-centered middle school with an emphasis on academic achievement for all students. We offer a rich and challenging academic curriculum that is comprehensively supported.  Angevine Middle School not only has a Pre-Engineering program, and a Dual Language strand, but it also boasts vibrant and successful arts programs that include: an award winning visual arts program, musical arts (award winning choir, band and orchestra programs), performing arts (outstanding full theater productions), and practical arts (exemplary consumer and family science and technical arts departments).  At Angevine, we feel that addressing the needs of the whole child by including creative and enriching experiences is essential to a comprehensive curriculum.  Our talented teaching staff engages in data-driven professional learning communities that focus on student achievement and school goals.  We offer a multitude of opportunities for students to become culturally competent global leaders who will be well prepared to be 21st Century Graduates.

All of our students are on grade level teams supported by content area teachers who collaborate to provide an integrated approach to delivering standards-based curriculum. Each grade level is supported by an administrator and a counselor who get to know the students and their families quite well over a three year period.  We have a seven period schedule, and students attend a grade level lunch.

On Wednesdays, when there is a full-week of school, Angevine runs a Late Start Wednesday.  Students attend all seven periods for a shortened period of time.  Teachers engage in data-driven dialogue about best practice using data from frequent common formative and summative assessments. Students are welcome to attend before school programming on Late Start Wednesdays, or they may come to school at 9:45am.

We have school-wide expectations designed to provide an organizational foundation for high academic achievement. These include the Angevine Notebook that all students are expected to carry with them to class, two-column note-taking, and standards for written work.

Our Dual Language Program, which is an academic enrichment strand within the grade levels, provides instruction to students in both English and Spanish.  Sixth graders take science, social studies, and integrated language arts in Spanish and in English.  Seventh and eighth graders take Social Studies and integrated language arts in Spanish and English.  This enrichment strand has an application process and students who successfully complete its requirements earn a Certificate of Bilingualism.

We also have a rigorous Pre-Engineering program introducing students to careers in engineering and preparing them for a state-of-the-art pre-engineering program at Centaurus High School.  Highly motivated students who would like to consider a full pre-engineering program at the high school and gain early entry into the University of Colorado School of Engineering choose to take advanced math and science courses and electives in engineering.

Our program for Gifted and Talented Students is supported by a full-time TAG teacher who will provide some pull-out services to students, coordinate extracurricular opportunities, and work with content teachers to deliver extensions to the regular curriculum.  We do offer advanced coursework and a publications class for students who apply and are accepted.  Our publications class allows students to explore different forms of publication; to include applying their journalism skills to broadcast morning announcements via our television broadcast studio.

We hope you come and visit Bobcat country soon!  We know you'll find it to be a welcoming place where high student achievement and a real sense of belonging go hand-in-hand!

Sincerely,
Mike Medina - Principal
Tobey Bassoff - Assistant Principal

 About Our School

Angevine Middle School is a neighborhood school in Lafayette. We serve grades six, seven and eight by offering a challenging and rigorous academic curriculum that is supported comprehensively throughout the school.

We offer a continuum of instructional opportunities in literacy and language arts. Advanced language arts is offered as an option in 7th and 8th grades. We have a large English as a Second Language program which serves between 15 and 20 percent of the student body. There are three levels of instruction, with an additional class linked to content areas for beginners, and ESL reading. We also have an innovative literacy lab for students who need support in reading. We offer a range of math classes, from regular math through an accelerated program at sixth and seventh grades, to advanced algebra or geometry at eighth grade.

Our special education program is designed to support as many of our students with special needs as possible within the regular programs. We aim to correct or mitigate these students’ learning problems with appropriate individual tuition. Although these students are sometimes referred to as ‘special needs students,’ we believe that all of our students are special and treat every student as an individual.

Particularly Talented and Gifted students are offered encouragement through an enrichment program which provides acceleration options. Several such students may take high school courses. These students, like all of our students, are treated as individuals with their own potentialities and aspirations, strengths and weaknesses.

Apart from knowledge, of course, we believe that the most valuable asset that Angevine students can carry with them into high school and on into college is an enthusiasm for learning. We are privileged to have the teaching staff, the administrative staff, and a parent body dedicated to fostering constructive enthusiasm.
