Welcome to Angevine Middle School!
We are a student-centered middle school with an emphasis on academic achievement for all students. We offer a rich and challenging academic curriculum that is comprehensively supported. Angevine Middle School not only has a Pre-Engineering program, and a Dual Language strand, but it also boasts vibrant and successful arts programs that include: an award winning visual arts program, musical arts (award winning choir, band and orchestra programs), performing arts (outstanding full theater productions), and practical arts (exemplary consumer and family science and technical arts departments). At Angevine, we feel that addressing the needs of the whole child by including creative and enriching experiences is essential to a comprehensive curriculum. Our talented teaching staff engages in data-driven professional learning communities that focus on student achievement and school goals. We offer a multitude of opportunities for students to become culturally competent global leaders who will be well prepared to be 21st Century Graduates.
All of our students are on grade level teams supported by content area teachers who collaborate to provide an integrated approach to delivering standards-based curriculum. Each grade level is supported by an administrator and a counselor who get to know the students and their families quite well over a three year period. We have a seven period schedule, and students attend a grade level lunch.
On Wednesdays, when there is a full-week of school, Angevine runs a Late Start Wednesday. Students attend all seven periods for a shortened period of time. Teachers engage in data-driven dialogue about best practice using data from frequent common formative and summative assessments. Students are welcome to attend before school programming on Late Start Wednesdays, or they may come to school at 9:45am.
We have school-wide expectations designed to provide an organizational foundation for high academic achievement. These include the Angevine Notebook that all students are expected to carry with them to class, two-column note-taking, and standards for written work.
Our Dual Language Program, which is an academic enrichment strand within the grade levels, provides instruction to students in both English and Spanish. Sixth graders take science, social studies, and integrated language arts in Spanish and in English. Seventh and eighth graders take Social Studies and integrated language arts in Spanish and English. This enrichment strand has an application process and students who successfully complete its requirements earn a Certificate of Bilingualism.
We also have a rigorous Pre-Engineering program introducing students to careers in engineering and preparing them for a state-of-the-art pre-engineering program at Centaurus High School. Highly motivated students who would like to consider a full pre-engineering program at the high school and gain early entry into the University of Colorado School of Engineering choose to take advanced math and science courses and electives in engineering.
Our program for Gifted and Talented Students is supported by a full-time TAG teacher who will provide some pull-out services to students, coordinate extracurricular opportunities, and work with content teachers to deliver extensions to the regular curriculum. We do offer advanced coursework and a publications class for students who apply and are accepted. Our publications class allows students to explore different forms of publication; to include applying their journalism skills to broadcast morning announcements via our television broadcast studio.
We hope you come and visit Bobcat country soon! We know you'll find it to be a welcoming place where high student achievement and a real sense of belonging go hand-in-hand!
Sincerely,
