Community Access Mentoring

CAM is Growing!!!
The Community Access Mentoring Program began serving students at Casey and Manhattan Middle Schools in May of 2008.  In January of 2009 CAM will be adding the following middle schools; Platt, Angevine, Broomfield Heights, Centennial, Nederland, Monarch and Sacred Heart. If you are interested in making a difference in the lives of BVSD middle school youth, please contact Dr. Patti Ashley, Program Coordinator, Boulder Valley School District’s Community Access Mentoring (CAM) program. patti.ashley@bvsd.org or 720-203-6844.

A message from Marion Wright Edelman, President of The Children’s Defense Fund, Washington D.C. --"Never before have we exposed children so early and relentlessly to cultural messages glamorizing violence, sex, possessions, alcohol, and tobacco with so few mediating influences from responsible adults.  Never have we experienced such a numbing and reckless reliance on violence to solve problems, feel powerful, or be entertained.  Never have so many children been permitted to rely on guns and gangs rather than on parents, neighbors, religious congregations, and schools for protection and guidance.  Never have we pushed so many children on to the tumultuous sea of life without the life vests of nurturing families and communities, caring schools, challenged minds, job prospects, and hope.”
(from Prayers For A Thousand Years,  edited by Elizabeth Roberts & Elias Amidon, 1999)
