New vaccine REQUIREMENTS continue for 2008-2009 school year

• 2nd dose Varicella (chickenpox) for kindergartners
• Chickenpox spreads easily.  Serious complications can arise from natural disease.   Vaccination helps prevent spread and complications.
• For proof of natural disease, laboratory testing showing immunity or documentation of disease from a health care provider is acceptable.
  
• Tdap (Tetanus, diphtheria, pertussis) for 6th and 10th graders
• Pertussis  (whooping cough) is problematic in CO (5th in US).  Early childhood vaccine loses effectiveness over time.  The disease can be very serious.
  
• If parents do not wish their child to have the vaccines for personal or religious reasons, a waiver can be signed by parents.  A physician may sign a medical exemption.
