Enrichment programs and extracurricular activities are offered before and after school in conjunction with Foothill, and usually involve Foothill teachers or parent volunteers. Programs which require a fee are noted. The following are examples of activities that are or have been offered: availability in a given year often depends upon the enthusiasm of parent volunteers.
Chess Club
Foothill has offered both a beginner's and advanced chess class in the past. Parent volunteer needed to run programs. (Fee)
Fox Fife Fusion - After School Music Ensemble
3rd, 4th and 5th graders may participate in the Fox Fife Fusion which meets after school on Wednesday afternoons from 2:50-3:30 pm. This performing group consists of singing, recorder, and mallet instruments. The ensemble performs several evening programs per year and is sponsored by a Foothill music teacher. Continental Math League
This is an after-school math program for 2nd through 5th graders. Students participate in three monthly contests, from January through March. Tests are held at Foothill, scored locally, and the top six results are then forwarded to the national organization. The CML web site has more details. PTO parent volunteers run this after school program. (Fee)
Elementary Spanish Program
The Elementary Spanish Program offers enrichment classes before school for all grade levels. The introductory programs provide students with a strong auditory foundation so that they will feel comfortable hearing and speaking Spanish. Foothill Kids Care
PTO volunteers organize opportunities for students to participate in community service. Events may include the Boulder Creek Clean Up, sorting at Community Food Share and Share-a-Toy. Our school Talent Show also performs at a local nursing home.
Geography Bee
Students in grades 3-5 participate in study sessions after school, then participate in a Geography Bee during school hours, sponsored by the National Geographic Society. The winner takes a statewide written test, and if they score high enough, competes at the state Bee.
Lego Robotics
Twenty 4th and 5th grade studnets create and write software to accomplish a robotic mission. parent leaders are needed to run this activity. See www.firstlegoleague.org for more information. (Fee)
Lifelong Learning Classes
BVSD Lifelong Learning Program offers over 200 classes and workshops designed to give adults and children the opportunity to learn from others in the community throughout the year. New classes start every week and are held in schools throughout Boulder County. Register early because classes fill up quickly. Visit www.bvsd.org/LLL. (Fee)
Sandwiches for the Homeless
Each week, students in a selected grade level bring in sandwiches that they've made at home. These are then delivered to a local homeless shelter. A specific grade level makes sandwiches approximately every six weeks. This program is run by Foothill PTO volunteers.
Science Seekers
Grades K-1. Young children will have the opportunity to be inquisitive and playful with science projects. This program has been offered by Foothill teachers. (Fee)
Spelling Bee
4th and 5th grade students participate in the Spelling Bee. The Bee is held in early February in cooperation with Daily Camera. This event is run by PTO volunteers.
