“IT’S A GREAT DAY TO BE AN EAGLE”
“IT’S A GREAT DAY TO BE AN EAGLE” is a theme heard throughout our school and our community. Broomfield High School continues to succeed in all areas of school life and our students take pride in their school. From academics, to music, to theatre, to athletics, the Broomfield Eagles are continually recognized for their achievements at district, league, and state competitions. This past year we added two additional team state champions to our State Championship Wall in Eagle Gym. Our pom squad and our drumline team both won state recognitions. We also won two individual state championships in athletics. Without the dedication of our students and the support of our parents and community, these accomplishments would not be possible. I am thankful for the great opportunities that have been given to me to serve the all students at Broomfield High School and am especially proud of the accomplishments of the Class of 2007.
In the fall of 2006, the community of Broomfield along with the rest of BVSD supported our schools in passing a $296.8 million bond package. Broomfield High School was allocated $20.7 million to make major renovations to our site. The design team is diligently working to develop the plan and construction is projected to begin in early 2008 with a completion date of summer 2009. We are excited and look forward to opening the “New Broomfield High” in fall of 2009, 50 years after the original building was opened.
Academic excellence and co-curricular involvement are expected. Teachers set high goals for their students and support them while reaching these goals. Students are encouraged to participate in many activities and not limit themselves to one facet of school life. While we enjoy celebrating athletic successes with new trophies and banners, I continue to challenge our students to create equal recognition for academic excellence. We have begun with our new “Academic Wall of Fame.” I encourage you to visit our new addition and see the valedictorians since 1962; I encourage you to help us find the missing pictures.
Broomfield High School has completed its third year of our ESL (English as a Second Language) program. With the implementation of this program, approximately 40 students have been able to receive the appropriate support and academic instruction to reach their goals while staying at their home high school. I am constantly encouraged by the commitment of teachers, parents, and community to create the best environment for all students to feel welcomed and be encouraged to meet their academic goals.
The support of parents and community members has helped us create a setting where issues can be raised and solutions jointly created. We welcome new families and staff to join our Broomfield family as we continue to make improvements. The people inside the building have created a positive environment for all who attend each day. “WE ARE BROOMFIELD” is another cherished chant heard at many events. We are a community school and function as a Broomfield family. The academic successes of our students are positive reflections of our community’s focus.
