Enrolling Your Child in BVSD

 Determining Your Neighborhood School

There are two ways to determine your neighborhood school:

  • Find it using our School Finder
  • Call the Student Enrollment Center at 303-447-5247

 Enrolling in Your Neighborhood School

Enrollment in neighborhood schools is handled at each school. Kindergartners and new students may register at their neighborhood school at any time. Schools are closed from mid-June to early August. During this time, students will be able to register through the Student Enrollment Center online (coming soon!). Parents are encouraged to register incoming kindergarteners by January prior to the start of school.

To register, families must provide the following to the school whether the online enrollment application is used or not:

  • Proof of birth date
To be admitted to kindergarten in BVSD, a child must reach his or her 5th birthday on or before Sept. 30. For admission to first grade, the child must reach his or her 6th birthday on or before Sept. 30.
  • Record of updated immunizations
Check our required immunizations page for more information.

  • Proof of residency
May include utility bills, lease agreements, or a house contract.

 Open Enrollment

If you wish to enroll your child at a school other than your neighborhood school, you must submit an open enrollment applicaton to the Open Enrollment office during the enrollment period, which typically runs from December through January of the preceding year.

For specific dates, open enrollment information, and an online application, go to the Open Enrollment page or call the Open Enrollment Office at 303-245-5900.

 Preschool

BVSD offers fee-based preschool programs in some elementary schools.  Since classroom sizes are limited to 10 – 15 students, enrollment into preschool is determined through lottery.  For more information on the preschools in BVSD or to download a lottery application, use the following links:

 Kindergarten

BVSD provides a half-day Kindergarten program at all schools, except for Alicia Sanchez Elementary, which offers a full-day program.  Some of the elementary schools offer modified kindergarten schedules that provide 2 – 3 full days/week instead of the traditional half-day model.  Please call your neighborhood school to determine the schedules offered there.

The Boulder Valley School Disrict offers a half-day optional, fee-based childcare program (K-Care) in addition to the half-day kindergarten program.  K-Care is offered through the district's Community Schools Program. For more information on this program, go to the K-Care Program website.
