Boulder Valley Advisory Boards
Boulder Valley School District strongly supports the involvement of the community as an integral part of the decision making process. There are two specific Advisory Boards whose members work with the superintendent to ensure that equity issues are being addressed in BVSD. The Multi-Ethnic Action Committee (MEAC) has been a strong force in the Boulder Community for 20 years. In 2001 the council was adopted a an advisory board. They tend to issues which address all student's safety. The Safe Schools Coalition is also an advisory board to the superintendent. This coalition works in support of students and BVSD staff who identify as Gay, Lesbian, Bi-sexual, Transgendered and Questioning.
Community Organizations
The Boulder Valley Office of Institutional Equity and Multicultural Education has many partners in the broader Boulder community in the work of promoting diversity. Reading to End Racism is a community rooted organization started 10 years ago with the support of the Women's International League for Peace. The goal of Reading to End Racism is to help students understand the negative affects of racism through the joy of reading. RER has a number of volunteer readers who go into the schools and work with individual classrooms and their teachers. These readers talk about their own experiences with racism and students are encourages to share their views and experiences. Reading to End Racism Boulder has branched out to include the communities of Broomfield, Colorado and Louisville.
